Motorcycle Value
Well, if you ask a true motorcyclist the value of his or her bike the person would probably overrate it – that’s because bikers form an almost personal relationship with their wheels – very unlike a car. Bikers are often the ‘cowboys’ and the bikes are likened to their horses, if you know what I mean. A bike is almost an extension of the biker’s personality…anyway; every thing man made has a price tag attached to it, and so does a bike…lets look at some of the ways you can judge motorcycle value.
Why you need to put a price to a machine
The one primary reason you will want to value your motorcycle is for insurance. Most bikers do customize their machinery, which could definitely increase value. The Kelly blue book is a great online tool that can help you determine a motorcycle value. Keeping score of the value of your motorcycle is also a good way to know how much you can expect when you try and sell it. Whether you are looking to sell your used bike, or are looking to buy a second hand one, being aware of price depreciation is going to benefit you. Let’s try and look at an example of how you could use this to your advantage. Do remember thou that there are two sides to every coin – when you are negotiating for the motorcycle value of a used vehicle, you also need to consider the ‘classic’ value of the bike – if it were more than say 25 yrs old!
Making a good deal
We could safely consider a depreciating vale of 10% for every year, on a used bike. This is of course a very general rule, and lots of other variables will help you determine the best price for a motorcycle value. But it’s a start. Say if the motorbike were 3 yrs old, you could evaluate 30% less than its original price, but this rule wouldn’t apply to more than about 5 yrs – you wouldn’t get a bike free if it were ten years old you know. So let’s consider this as 50% motorcycle value after 5 yrs of usage. This is of course considering it is well maintained.
Evaluate the working condition of the bike, maybe take a professional’s opinion, and consider how much more you would need to spend on the motorcycle to get it into perfect running condition. Subtract this amount from the already depreciated value, and you would be close to putting a price on the motorcycle value. On the other hand, do consider making a higher bid when it is obvious that a lot of time and money has been spent on customizing the motorcycle.
