Pocket Bikes
There is a new trend in the world of motorcycling – pocket bikes. Those miniature motor cycles have small gas or oil powered engines, but look exactly like their bigger relatives. The prices range from 200$ up to 1000$ dollars depending on the respective model.
But who are the people that spend money on a small sized bike? At first they were meant for people who are too young or to small to handle a real motorbike, but nowadays basically everyone can enjoy pocket bikes, no matter if college student or pensioner, all motorcycle enthusiasts seem to love the pocket bikes and see them as a fun toy
.
The only disadvantage of pocket bikes is that they are only to be used on special tracks or private roads. If you drive on a normal street with those miniature bikes car drivers won’t be able to see you very well because of the low height of the pocket bikes. This is why accidents frequently occur when people drive on normal streets with their mini motorcycles. For your own safety you should therefore just drive on special tracks as the pocket bikes do not conform to the federal motor vehicle safety standards.
So what does a pocket bike have to offer? A lot of things actually:
- they weigh about 60 pounds
- they are about 4 feet high
- the wheel diameter is about 10 inches
- their top speed is around 35 mph, but of course with a little tuning they can even go faster
- they have small engines of about 47cc or 49cc
- many of them are exact imitations of well known big bikes
- they are much cheaper than big motorcycles but still bring a lot of fun
As mentioned before mini pocket bikes are not made for public roads. So where do the owners of pocket bikes enjoy their racing toys?
There are actually many pocket bike competitions that you can easily find out about online. A lot of pocket bike enthusiasts use go-kart tracks for racing with friends. Of course you can also drive around with them in open local areas.
There is even an organisation called the North American Pocket Bike Racing Association that provides information about tracks and organizes official pocket bike races.
So race alone or with your friends, organize a race or join an official competition and have fun on your pocket bike!
