Used Motorcycle Prices

Do not scoff at the idea of getting a second hand motorcycle. You can get some good bargains out there, and you can get cheated as well, if you aren’t careful. While considering used motorcycle prices, it is good if you know at least a little about what makes a bike tick. If you don’t, you would do well to take along a friend or even a professional who does. Old and battered motorcycles can easily be refurbished to ‘look’ good, while they may be crummy from the inside. Similarly, you may let a good bargain slip right out of your hands if it ‘looked messed up’, but was a beauty underneath all the muck!

Checking out and judging a used machine

The condition of a used motorcycle obviously plays a vital part in effecting your bid price to buy it. If you have never owned a motorbike before you may not be able to judge its capability, let’s face that. On the other hand, if you know a little about how a bike should perform, this article will help you make a last minute checklist. Do listen to the engine  - get the feel of the bike by revving it on very low throttle – listen for a ringing sound when you release the throttle while the engine is changing to low revs – that’s a tell tale sign of loose piston rings, which could be expensive to replace. Check out obvious things like tire conditions and electrical – look out for tampered wiring – untidy wiring will probably soon give you trouble and you may have to rewire the complete electrical system. Look for signs of rust – gently apply pressure on paint areas that look fresh – they may have been freshly applied to hide rust! If there was in fact rust under the paint, the metal will feel like it could crumble if you applied heavy pressure. You could always go to a motorcycle club, maybe become part of one – members don’t usually cheat a fellow club member! Again, if you are buying a used machine without any prior experience, do have someone accompany you.

The price you can get a good machine for

Motorcycle price ranges increase with an increases in their ‘cc’ – that’s the displacement ratio that the machine can provide. Generally speaking, you can get a good used 250cc motorbike for something like 1500$ to 2000$, the best of brands. Talking 500cc and above – sports bikes and cruisers, you could pick one up for something like 3500$-7000$. The price of a used motorbike is definitely higher if it has been customized by the previous owner. This may be the absolute wrong option for you (a customized bike) if you were looking to make your own dream modifications, you know! If you have a customization plan, you could definitely go in for a very old and cheap motorcycle that hasn’t been altered before – remember, every time you alter the frame of a bike, you are reducing its endurance level (frame strength).
